| | | Single European Sky – a Common European Airspace NAVIAIR welcomes the adoption of the Single European Sky concept. By this adoption, full steam has been put to the efforts made at realising the policy aim at achieving greater efficiency and flexibility in the European airspace. NAVIAIR is not of the opinion that the proposal has any subversive effect on safety. On the contrary, the safety aspect is highly prioritised in the work done in creating the common airspace. Specifically speaking, NAVIAIR is going to intensify the work involved in exploring the possibilities of establishing a joint Nordic Upper Airspace Control centre. We expect to hand in a full report on this work to the Danish, Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish Ministers of Transport during the year of 2003. In addition to this, NAVIAIR will contribute actively to formulating the detailed regulations for the future organisation of the European airspace, including ways and means of handling the air traffic. With these efforts, NAVIAIR is contributory to the necessary harmonisation of the rules governing organisation and use of the airspace.
