The international civil aviation organization (ICAO) is a UN-organisation, established as a result of “Con-vention regarding International Civil Aviation” (the Chicago Convention) in 1944, today holding 189 member states.

According to the convention, which was ratified by Denmark in 1947, the member states are engaged to co-operate to determine international standards and recommendations securing a consistent security level and consistent procedures for the international aviation and for the services delivered to the inter-national aviation.

The member states are engaged to implement the adopted standards in the national legislation and to notify ICAO should a standard not be implemented nationally. ICAO is publishing such deviations to the other member states. For an aircraft/airline company from a member state to achieve permission to fly other member states territory, it is a condition that they meet the minimum demands, determined in the ICAO standards.

Naviair’s participation:

Naviair assesses and comments on drafts for the new ICAO standards and participates through the In-dustrial Association CANSO to work in those areas directly or indirectly concerning conduct of aviation services.
