In the deep financial crisis last year EU stipulated the possibility to receive specific funding for investments within the transport sector.

Within NEAP a joint application was made for “Green and Predictable Flights” containing technical support within several areas where investments are required to be able to fulfill the ambitious work in laying down the fundament for SESAR and other relevant projects.

The application was granted by the EU and the decision covers investments from 2009 – 2012 with an estimated total cost of €47,130,790 where the EU contribution is 19,33% or €9,108,000. This is a significant contribution to the stretched economy for the ANSPs concerned.

The contribution will focus on modernization and enhancement of infrastructure and ATC support tools for:

  • Introduction of Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) and Wide Area Multilateration (WAM for Mode S ELS and EHS);
  • Introduction of datalink capability;
  • Upgraded ground-ground networks by extending TCP-IP connectivity to geographically remote locations and improve TCP-IP connectivity
    with the core Aeronatuical Telecommunications Network (ATN);
  • Introduction of Performance Based Navigation (PBN) procedures and airborne systems;
  • Stepwise upgrade of current ATM Systems to integrate various enablers such as Datalink, Arrival Management (AMAN), ADS-B etc..
