When Naviair puts a new air traffic management system into operation, this naturally takes place in close corporation with the Danish Civil Aviation Administration (CAA-DK).

CAA-DK is an agency under the Ministry of Transport. CAA-DK manages a number of areas of responsibility in connection with regulation of civil aviation in Denmark relating to airlines, air passengers and other interests. CAA-DK’s core activity is the regulation of civil aviation operations, including ensuring that all flight safety regulations are observed.

There are comprehensive requirements placed on Naviair’s operation of air navigation services. Internationally there have been developed a series of rules, standards and procedures that form the basis for flight safety. It is the UN organization for civil aviation, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) that determines overall rules for flight safety. In Europe it is particularly the European organization for the safety of air navigation, Eurocontrol, that determines the more detailed regional rules within the framework defined by ICAO. At the same time the EU aviation safety agency, EASA, continually works to standardize procedures so that they are applicable across all countries and flight information regions.

In Denmark air navigation services are subject to Danish Civil Aviation Regulations. These regulations are largely based on ICAO standards.

Naviair’s new air traffic management system must naturally conform to all of these laws and regulations. For this reason, safety considerations are a large and important part of putting the new system into operation. Here it is Naviair’s task to document that all safety-related aspects have been subject for risk assessments and that all regulations, both national and international, are met. After this it is up to the Civil Aviation Administration to provide the final approval for the new system.
