| | The heart of the hardware and software that the new Danish air traffic management system uses has been developed by the French company Thales, based on the technology that the Swedish and the Irish air traffic management systems also use. Naviair has joined in binding cooperation with Sweden and Ireland under the name of COOPANS, COOPeration between ANS providers. The agreement means that the Danish, Swedish and Irish air navigation service providers in the future will cooperate in the development of common air traffic management equipment. It has already been agreed to install identical equipment in the control towers in Dublin, Shannon, Malmö, Stockholm and Copenhagen. Installation of the identical equipment is to be completed in 2010.
The purpose of cooperation in COOPANS is to identify and develop future functions in the system. In addition to standardization of the system itself, work is also progressing with harmonization of the associated procedures. In this way Naviair can reduce future development costs as well as improve the introduction of successive upgrades.
